Fresh Micronesian Yap Lei

This beautiful Micronesia Yap lei looks delicate because of the flat, woven-style in which each blossom is highlighted and seems to grow out of a network of knotting and stitching, yet it is very hardy and strong. This lavish orchid lip lei, epitomizes the current trend toward separating flower parts and using them in dramatic, tightly strung styles. To create it, the lei-maker takes the individual lips of nearly 600 dendrobium orchid blossoms, sorting the special blossoms, lays them flat, and sews them together to create an almost geometric structure, resulting in this beautiful work of art.
